0 0 Programme for Government talks Tuesday 28 January 2025 In recent weeks Chime advocacy efforts have focussed on the Programme for Government talks. We contacted all parties and those involved in the discussions with two key asks: (a) the need for the publication of educational outcomes (Sten tests) for Deaf and Hard of Hearing children, and (b) seeking support for Deaf students to be able to do an ISL subject exam in the Leaving Certificate. We were pleased that the Programme for Government included the development of an ISL curriculum for both Primary and Secondary level (see P. 67 of the Programme for Government). After the new Government is formed, we will continue to lobby for a Leaving Certificate subject exam in ISL and the publication of educational outcomes for Deaf and Hard of Hearing children. At this point in time the Department of Education has refused a request for a Deaf student to do a Leaving Cert exam in ISL, and the student is now pursuing a discrimination case under the Equal Status Act with the Workplace Relations Commission.
